Golem in the Berkshires

we're very excited to have New York City's Golem coming right here to the
Berkshires one week from tonight, on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 8pm, at Club
Helsinki (www.clubhelsinkiweb.com) in Great Barrington, Mass. -- the
southwest corner of the state, on the NY/Conn/Mass border.
If you haven't been to the club, it's an incredibly intimate, funky place,
with appropriately funky Eastern European/Scandinavian food and drink. It's
played host to the likes of Metropolitan Klezmer, Sruli and Lisa, Gary
Lucas, Steven Bernstein's Sex Mob, Living Daylights, Marc Ribot and tons of
other great acts.
If you haven't heard Golem, you're in for a rare treat. Few bands perform
the repertoire that Golem mines -- the cross-cultural relationship among
Yiddish folk and theater music and related musics from Russia, Ukraine,
Moldova, Serbia and Rom musicians.
I wrote a short piece on Golem for the Berkshire Eagle that you can read at
http://www.rogovoy.com/326.shtml.
If anyone on the list is planning to come to the show, please let me know --
it'll be great to meet up there and put names to faces.
best,

“The music of my childhood memories came flooding back through the decades
as I read. Maybe, as Seth Rogovoy suggests, it’s time for our music to
awaken once more to an entirely new generation. Incredibly detailed and
comprehensive, this book is a lot more than Essential!” -- folk music legend
Arlo Guthrie
