New York, NY ? The Center for Traditional Music and Dance culminates a
five-year collaboration with Nashi Traditsii (Our Traditions), a CTMD
Soviet-Jewish Community Cultural Initiative with a spectacular evening
concert on May 19th in Manhattan at the Kaye Playhouse Hunter College,
68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues. Tickets are $35, $25,
and $15 (students and seniors) and may be purchased by calling (212)
772-4448, or at the Kaye Playhouse Box Office, Mon.- Sat., 12pm-6pm.

The concert program Crossing Bridges, Jewish Musical Worlds of the
former Soviet Union, represents a remarkable and historical event,
during a poignant period of reflection and healing in New York City. For

the first time ever, New York concert-goers will have the opportunity to

experience the Jewish musical traditions of Ukraine, Moldova,
Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Azerbaijan in a single
evening, together with world-renowned klezmer clarinetists, David
Krakauer and Andy Statman.

Master musicians and dancers from New York?s Ashkenazic, Bukharan,
Georgian and Mountain Jewish immigrant communities will bridge
successive waves of Jewish immigration to the United States, linking
time-honored musical traditions with contemporary expressions of Jewish
identity in America. The evening?s music will span Manhattan and the
boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, home to a population of over 300,000
former Soviet Jews, New York?s second largest immigrant community.
The collaborative presence of David Krakauer and Andy Statman with these

musicians will explore an artistic continuum of Jewish music during our
changing times.

Host for this musical celebration and the invaluable contribution of
Jews from the former Soviet Union to America?s diverse cultural
vitality, will be PRI?s Ellen Kushner of Sound & Spirit.
