I believe that this particular nign was discovered during field work at the village of Stanishest in Romania, where the Jewish villagers (who I believe were in the minority) would greet the Sabbath with this nign every week... processing backwards from the riverbank so as not to offend the Bride of the Sabbath. But, Adrienne's right, Itzhik Gottesman or Jenny Romaine will be able to shed more light on this for you....
