My Russian friends point out that they FACE the aisle of seated people when
going past them to seats in the middle of a movie theater aisle, whereas
Americans scoot across facing their derierre to the seated patrons. I
pointed out that Americans are not comfortable facing strangers at close
range--it is considered threatening--and consider it more considerate to
scootch through with their backside to those already seated.
