Ari,
The recording "your life in Laffa" was released in 1995, at a time when the
East-West fusion was not as popular as it is now... but it captures
something more than that. In the late sixties and seventies in Israel you
could hear music that came from Europe -(Greece, France), along with
Mizrachi and Western Rock music. This strange blend was sometimes referred
to as music from the "Tachana Merkazit" (the central bus station in Tel
Aviv). The look of the band and the graphics too are reminiscent of the
late sixties, early seventies, so for me there is a lot of nostalgia in this
recording. It's excellent!
The band's phone # from the CD - 03-5622474,5,6

After hearing raves from several friends, I have finally gotten a copy of an
album by the Israeli group, Teapacks. I'm very impressed. Reminds me a bit
of "Atrash 3" of a few years ago. Very interesting lyrics relating directly
to growing up Moroccan in an Israeli development town. Musically, they aren
t breaking any new ground (or at least, I'm not hearing it on first listen),
unless you count the fusion of relatively straightforward western pop/rock
structure with Mizrahi melodies and the use of what sounds like an accordion
(which is, um, definitely =unique= in that context--oud+accordion, anyone?).
I'm told that a good started album is "your life in a laffa" Anyone know
more about the band?
