RE: music in concentration camps (fwd)

Did you look at Fanya Fanon's book "Playing for Time"? Fanon played in the
Bergen Belsen orchestra, and wrote most of the arrangements that they
played. she mentions some of the pieces in her book.

There is also, of course, the music of Theresienstadt. If you need scores
of music written and played at Terezin, you might write to David Bloch of
the Theresienstadt Music Project. Write me for his email if you need it.

If you are interested in music played in the DP camps after the war, you
should contact Bret Werb of the Holocaust museum in Washington. He did a
project and a number of concerts of DP music. again, write me for his email
if you are interested.

I would be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Dear Abbi:
Geraldine, from the JMI gave me your address. I'm a violinist from the
Royal Academy of Music in London. I'm doing a Masters there and I'm doing
some research about music which was performed within the camps.
I've enough written material for the moment, but I don't have enough
repertoire (the idea is to give a concert). Do you have any information
about instrumental repertoire?
I've spoken to Anita Wallfish, the cellist who went to Auschwitz and wrote
the book Inherit the Truth. She gave me some ideas, but I'd like to have
more information.
Yours,
Katia Chornik
