Roza Eskenazi (Re: Rosa Ashkenazi)

Dear Joan,

You will be able to find a number of CDs available now with reissues of old
78 rpm recordings on which Roza Eskenazi's singing is represented. I suspect
there's probably at least one CD on the market that's completely devoted to
Roza.

Try doing a Google search for "Roza Eskenazi," and you'll find plenty.
There's a Roza Eskenazi page at:
http://www.btinternet.com/~judyin.london/rozaeskenazi/roza1.htm

One CD that you might try, for starters, is Martin Schwartz's CD entitled
"Greek-Oriental Rebetika: Songs and Dances in the Asia Minor Style,
1911-1937." These are all 78s in Prof. Schwartz's collection, with good
notes by him, too. It's on Arhoolie's Folklyric label, no. CD 7005. It
offers three songs sung by Roza Eskenazi. Two other important women singers,
Rita Abadzi and Marika Papagika, are also represented.

Hope this helps,
Sandra
