        FOR WASHINGTON HEIGHTS SYNAGOGUE

Hot Pstromi, led by Yale Strom, pitches in
to help Beth Am, the People's Temple

Naxos World recording artist Yale Strom brings his highly popular
klezmer group Hot Pstromi to Washington Heights next month for a concert
to benefit Beth Am, the People's Temple on Sunday, November 4.
Led by Strom on violin and his wife Elizabeth Schwartz on vocals, Hot
Pstromi has released several well-received CDs. The band plays an
innovative blend of traditional klezmer, Gypsy, Russian folk and
hard-swinging jazz. Strom's most recent recording, "Garden of Yidn"
garnered a rave review from Jewish Week: "Inventive and a off the beaten
path. Rating: 4 stars."
Beth Am, the People's Temple is a Reform synagogue located in
Washington Heights in northern Manhattan. Founded in 1950, Beth Am has
been hailed for its innovative approach to liturgy and honored for its
social justice activities.
Beth Am was recently given a $10,000 matching grant in honor of two
recently deceased long-time members by their surviving stepson, who
wishes to remain anonymous. Proceeds from the November 4 event will go
to the fund created to match that grant.
The concert will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2001 at Beth
Am's home, the Cornerstone Center, located at 178 Bennett Avenue (190th
Street, one block west of Broadway). Tickets are $20, $10 for seniors
and students. For more information, phone the synagogue office at
212-927-2230.
