Lives of the Klezmers

Hallo, all!

Here is a question from a playwright who wants to do a reality-based script 
about klezmer musicians.  What are the best resources for good, detailed 
biographies of klezmer musicians who immigrated to America?  And, are there 
any female klezmer musicians whose lives have been documented among them?
