Re: What is a cantorial soloist

Since posting my last message I have learned that, in addition to the
loose definition that I described, there also exists a more technical
use for the term in the Reform movement.
Those who serve congregations as paid prayer leaders, but who have not
attended cantorial school or completed cantorial certification, are
called cantorial soloists; those in the process
of certification study are called cantorial interns; those in cantorial
school are called cantorial students. The "soloists" and "interns" can
come from the ranks of the Guild of Temple Musicians.
