Someone who performs the cantorial repertoire in services, but is not an 
invested cantor.  (Which is not to say that contorial soloists don't sometimes 
have investments.  The cantorial soloist at the first congregation to which I 
belonged in the Twin Cities had a day job as a stock broker.)
