Krakauer's band live on CBS News' "The Saturday Early Show" April 7!

[This is a press release that came from David Krakauer's publicist:]

This Saturday, April 7, from 9-11 am in NYC (outside NYC, check your local
TV
listings for exact program time), tune in to "The Saturday Early Show" on
CBS
News, channel 2. The amazing clarinet virtuoso DAVID KRAKAUER and his
red-hot Klezmer Madness! band will perform live before 2.5 million people
throughout the program and over the final credits. Krakauer will also be
interviewed by the program's anchors.

Krakauer's "Klezmer Madness!" band will feature the following talents: Mark
Stewart, guitar; Nicky Parrott, bass; Kevin Norton, drums; and Will
Holshouser
, accordian.

On this morn of the 1st night of Passover, Krakauer's explosive ensemble
will
perform excerpts from Krakauer's brand new klezmer CD "A NEW HOT ONE" (Label
Bleu/harmonia mundi usa). In Europe the CD has already garnered 4
prestigious awards including the Diapason d'Or. France's Jazz Magazine
wrote
"This CD is magnificent, ferocious...Krakauer could be for klezmer what
Piazzolla was for tango." Germany's leading jazz magazine Jazz Thing
pronounced the disc "One of the top ten albums of the year." In the States,
Newsweek just recommended the CD with three stars. And Time Out exclaimed,
"Krakauer has delivered an album that strikes the perfect balance between
rock, jazz and klezmer."

"The Saturday Early Show" is one of CBS News' most popular programs. It
covers breaking news, news of the week and special reports. The anchors are
Russ Mitchell and Thalia Assuras.

and don't forget...
Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 8:30 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE TIME) at Merkin Concert
Hall, 129 West 67th St., David Krakauer performs Beyond Crossover, a rare
solo classical recital accompanied by pianist Brian Zeger. This recital
concludes the series nu (at) merkinhall: contemporary views of an expanding
tradition by today?s true originals. Tickets are $20 (call 212/501-3330).

A true original, Krakauer bends the rules of the "recital" tradition. His
program encapsulates the total Krakauer experience in a single hour with no
intermission. It opens with one of the most beautiful and beloved
masterpieces of the clarinet repertory, the Brahms Sonata in F minor, then
veers increasingly into modernism until it explodes with his red-hot
"Klezmer
Madness!" band. In between Krakauer illuminates Messiaen?s haunting solo
clarinet movement from The Quartet for the End of Time, Steve Reich?s New
York Counterpoint in a brand new version that features Krakauer in the 10
taped clarinets, the French romanticism of Debussy, and Krakauer?s own
experimental solo composition Rothko on Broadway. The latter is a literally
breathtaking tour-de-force of circular breathing, overtones, alternate
fingerings and improvisation.

The April 21 Merkin Hall Program
Brahms: Sonata in F minor, Op. 120
Janacek: Concertino, Allegro
Debussy: Rhapsodie
Reich: New York Counterpoint for solo clarinet & 10 taped clarinets
(new
Krakauer version)
Messiaen: Abyss of the Birds from Quartet for the End of Time
Krakauer: Rothko on Broadway
Krakauer/trad: 10-minute set with Krakauer?s band Klezmer Madness!
