Noted Jewish music artist Andy Statman will be performing in New York
City with his new bluegrass band, Andy's Gang:
Bluegrass / string band alert!
Wednesday, February 28th, 2 shows (7:30 PM and 10:30 PM)
the Bottom Line
15 West 4th Street (corner of Mercer St. in Manhattan)
(1 short block from Tower on Broadway)
(212) 228-6300
ANDY?S GANG:
Andy Statman mandolin
Tony Trischka banjo
Ken Kosek fiddle
Dave Thompson guitar & vocals
Jim Whitney bass
Citizen Kafka fiddle, factotum
also on the bill, the SAM BUSH BAND!
Every musician in ANDY?S GANG is noted as an innovative and brilliant
player (with the possible exception of myself, Citizen Kafka, whose
antics as leader of the Wretched Refuse String Band for 31 years have
brought tears of mirth and groans of amazement to audiences world-wide).
The core musicians of ANDY?S GANG were founding members of the New York
City based Breakfast Special, and have played and recorded with many of
the world?s most noted musicians in widely varied fields (Bob Dylan,
Itzhak Perlman, Jerry Garcia, William S. Burroughs, Bela Fleck, Alison
Kraus, Vassar Clements, Richard Thompson, James Taylor, Chaka Khan,
Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, David Bromberg, Jessica Tandy and Hume
Cronyn, Schlomo Carlebach, Dave Tarras). The main vocalist, Dave
Thompson, is one of the great (and up to now unpublicized) authentic
bluegrass singers.
ANDY?S GANG will remind you just how vital and exciting ?real? American
traditional music is, with the added ?bonus? of the improvisational
genius and wide-ranging musical influences of Messrs. Statman, Kosek,
Trischka, and Whitney.

And, a reminder, Andy Statman plays every Thursday evening at:
Darech Amuno (Greenwich Village Synagogue)
53 Charles Street (corner West 4th St.)
(212) 242-6425
Andy Statman plays every Thursday:
Music of the Jewish Mystics. An ongoing series, spotlighting Andy's
search for the basic nature of mystic Jewish music and practice.
Different musicians, instrumentation, and musical settings are presented
each week. Always introspective, a work in progress. Quoting Andy from
the Village Voice: "It's more than nostalgia. Nostalgia has nothing to
do with it," Statman says. "The melodies are already set up to induce
the spirit. We just give it our own treatment."
Music from 8 to 10:30 PM. Suggested donation is $10, $7 for students.
