Well, the first step is to contact the list owner, who is (unfortunately)
likely to be the only person able to answer or interested in the question.
That's me: ari (at) ivritype(dot)com

But it is likely that other people will have the same question, so this is a
good time to broadcast these instructions.

TAKING A BREAK

What you do, is to set your mail status to "postpone", which means that the
list stops sending you stuff until you tend it otherwise (but =doesn't= mean
you get it later, which "postpone" might seem to imply).
When you want to receive e-mail again, you set your mail status to whatever it
is now:

1. ack (you get copies of stuff you send to the list, as well as the rest of
the messages

2. noack (you get everyone else's stuff, but not your own messages)

3. digest (you get a daily message with everything in one long message)

NOTE: While you have set mail to "postpone" you can still e-mail the list--you
just won't get anything back.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY MAIL SETTINGS?

Send e-mail to the list subscription service (NOT to the list). The
subscription service is: listproc (at) shamash(dot)org

The contents of the message should be the following line:

    set jewish-music mail postpone

When you want to change mail status, you send a new message to the same
address, say

    set jewish-music mail ack

That's all there is to it.

You can also go to
    http://www.ivritype.com/resources/jlists.html#jewish-music

and follow the links to the "swiss army knife" list configuration page and
change even more options, or find out more about what your options are.

P.S. This is a time of year when lots of students leave their e-mail accounts
and they either fill up or otherwise bounce back to the list. The list doesn't
care, but everyone who posts to the list gets those error messages as well. So,
be considerate. If you cannot keep your mailbox trimmed, or if you leave for a
new e-mail provider, either unsubscribe to the list, or set your mail status to
"postpone" as appropriate--don't litter.

If mail bounces from a particular address for long enough, I will delete it
from the list, but I try not to do that, because sometimes computers mess up
and the subscription service is in error.

Thanks!
