accommodation in NYC?

Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but, hey, there are practicalities involved
in researching Jewish music...

I'm planning a research trip to New York City from late March-August this 
year, and I'm looking for somewhere to live during this time. I need to
be within reasonable commuting distance of midtown manhattan.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions - do you know anyone with a spare room
which they might rent out to a visiting musicology-postgrad-student for
all or part of this time?
