Fwd: Frank London Concert Dec 19

Usually I don't comment on these, but if you haven't heard
the new Frank London CD, "Invocations" you are missing
something very different, and incredibly sweet. If you
are within arrival distance of NYC, this is going to be
a very special concert. ari

> on Merkin Hall's Last Minute Concerts Series, Curated by

>The Last Minute Concerts series will showcase trumpeter Frank London (of
>Klezmatics and Hasidic New Wave) on Tuesday, December 19 at 8PM. The
>evening features the world premiere performance of his new CD, Invocations.
> Just released on John Zorn's label, Tzadik, Invocations captures the
>magic and mystery of hazonos (classical cantorial music) in a way that
>rivals the sensitivity of the human voice. It is moody trumpeting to touch
>one's soul. Joining London to present these cantorial classics from the
>repertoires of Chagy, Rosenblatt, Sirota, Karniol and others will be a
>remarkable ensemble of musicians, including Anthony Coleman on harmonium,
>bassist Ken Filiano and Gina Leishman on glass harmonica and harmonium.
>
>Merkin Concert Hall is located in the Abraham Goodman House at 129 West
>67th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam. Tickets are $15 and can be
>purchased at the Merkin Concert Hall Box Office or by calling the concert
>line at (212) 501-3330.
>
>Invocations was recorded live in the Community Synagogue on the Lower East
>Side of Manhattan. Using trumpet and ambient acoustic instruments, it
>attempts to establish an atmosphere of mysterious, meditative beauty.
>Drawing from the untapped treasure trove of early American and European
>cantorial singing and distilled through the personal aesthetic of an artist
>equally versed in Naftule Brandwein and Miles Davis, it is an extremely
>unique musical document.
