That's a fun one. Today, it's attributed to Solomon Sulzer. In the 1893
Union Hymnal (which attributes much to Sulzer), it's listed as
"Traditional." So it's more than a hundred years old, and seems to have
dubious attribution. But that's about as far back as I can go. Anyone
else?
