And Boston is a great example. The question is, to whom would I direct
someone inquiring about a gig? Is there a manager at Johnny D's who is
more receptive, or a way to have someone referred, such that the booking
person would listen to the tape with a positive ear?
For Boston, I can put together a list that would suggest those two clubs
(but who to contact?). For a good touring band, the World Music series,
or Scullers, might also be possible venues. Maybe something at the New
England Conservatory? If it's new Jewish music, then certainly the JCC
or a synagogue might be open. But, again, who to contact, and how much
lead time is needed?
It's also tricky because to put a list like that on the web, complete with
contact info, means that those same people, once open to klezmer music or
new Jewish music, now get bombarded by any would-be touring band with
access to the web. That may not be the best policy for anyone.
