The Klezmatics revitalize the old standards and create new classics
with true passion and abandon ? Washington Post
Los Angeles, 14 June 2000?Yiddishkayt Los Angeles is pleased to present
the 21st Century soul-stirring Jewish roots music of New York City?s
legendary band, THE KLEZMATICS appearing on July 9th in two performances

In arrangements and compositions that combine Jewish identity and
mysticism with a contemporary zeitgeist and a post-modern aesthetic, The
Klezmatics celebrate the ecstatic nature of Yiddish music, creating
music by turns wild, spiritual, reflective, and danceable. The vitality
and joy of The Klezmatics has uplifted sold-out audiences around the
world since their start eleven years ago, and they have reached millions
of new fans in their collaboration with Itzhak Perlman in his
Emmy-winning PBS television special In the fiddler?s House and on its
subsequent concert tour.
Among the leaders of the Jewish music renaissance, The Klezmatics
magical interpretation of Klezmer music reinvents this living tradition
producing music that?s down-home and hot, reverent and fierce, sinuous
and swinging. The band?s album, Possessed, featuring music excerpted
from their score by Ton (Angeles in America) Kushner?s adaptation of the
classic Yiddish stageplay, The Dybbuk, was released on Xenophile
Records. Guest artists on this album include John Medeski (of Medeski,
Martin & Wood), Moxy Fruvous, and Adrienne Cooper. The Well, their
highly acclaimed collaboration with Israeli folk diva Chava Alberstein
was released to rave reviews in 1998.
The Klezmatics are: Alicia Svigals, violin; Lorin Sklamberg, vocalist
and accordian; Paul Morrissett, bass/tsimbl); Frank London, horns; David
Licht, drums; and Matt Darriau, reeds, flutes, and ethnic woodwinds.
This event is part of the 2000 Summer Nights at the Ford, a
multi-disciplinary arts series produced by the Los Angeles County Arts
Commission in cooperation with the Los Angeles County-based arts
organizations.
Yiddishkayt Los Angeles is pleased to offer group discounts on the $20
evening concert tickets, as well as the $7 morning conert tickets. If you
have a group of 10 or more people interested in attending, we will sell you
two tickets for the price of one. Please call Austen Rachlis or Shaina
