A LITTLE KLEZMER BRINGS A LOT OF JOY TO
IMAGES CINEMA' S BREAKFAST CLUB SERIES

Williamstown, Mass. (July 1, 2000) -- Images Cinema is proud to present
guest speaker Seth Rogovoy, author of The Essential Klezmer: A Music
Lover?s Guide to Jewish Roots and Soul Music, as part of July's
BREAKFAST CLUB: A Sunday Brunch and Film Discussion Series. On Sunday,
July 23, Images Cinema will spotlight A TICKLE IN THE HEART, an upbeat
and heartfelt documentary about klezmer music.

Author and music critic Seth Rogovoy has written for the Berkshire Eagle
since 1986 and his music journalism has appeared in national and
regional magazines and newspapers. Seth's art commentary is heard weekly
on WAMC, where he is the 'Cultural Czar' on the morning Roundtable
program. He also hosts Rockin? the Shtetl, a weekly radio show focusing
on klezmer and Jewish music, originating from Williams College's radio
station WCFM (91.9 FM).

Newsday has called The Essential Klezmer, "All-encompassing, critically
astute and unfailingly enthusiastic." The definitive guide to klezmer
music and the klezmer revival, The Essential Klezmer features a history
of the music, interviews with leading contemporary klezmer musicians,
and an annotated listing describing hundreds of klezmer recordings, for
which Booklist said "Fans should ever bless Rogovoy." Legendary
folksinger Arlo Guthrie calls Seth's book ?A lot more than Essential.?

"Seth?s work is being hailed as the most comprehensive book on the
origins, history, sounds and musicians of this time-honored style of
music making a comeback," said Alexandra Kalmanofsky, Artistic Director.
"We are thrilled to feature Seth for this very special BREAKFAST CLUB
lecture and discussion," she added.

A TICKLE IN THE HEART follows three elderly klezmer musicians as they
entertain Southern Florida?s weddings, bar mitzvahs and senior centers.
Focusing on the performers? intense love of the tunes, this story helps
the audience connect with a Yiddish culture that is slowly reemerging
and given new life as some Jewish-Americans regain a part of their
history.
"Klezmer music, the Eastern European Jewish folk music that has
undergone a revival in recent years, is lovingly and touchingly feted in
this profile of three elderly practitioners of the form," says Shlomo
Schwartzberg of Box Office Magazine.

Images Cinema will present a continental brunch in its theater space,
followed by the film A TICKLE IN THE HEART and an informal post-film
discussion where Seth Rogovoy will comment on the resurgence of klezmer
music in America. A delicious variety of breakfast selections will be
served, and freshly-brewed coffee will be donated by Cold Spring Coffee
Roasters. Brunch will begin at 11 AM and the film at 12 Noon with
discussion to follow.

Ticket prices for this month?s BREAKFAST CLUB will be a bit higher than
usual, due to the extra costs of acquiring this celebrated documentary.
Prices are $20 for Members, $22 General Admission, and $12 for children
12 and under. Advance reservations are required for the brunch portion
of this event as Images Cinema has a limited number of tickets
available.

Please RSVP via email to comments (at) imagescinema(dot)org or call the Movie
Line and leave a message by Friday, July 21. Images Cinema anticipates a
popular response to this event and patrons are encouraged to make
reservations early. Tickets can be purchased for the film portion alone
($8 for Members, $10 General Admission), and are available on a
first-come basis.
A TICKLE IN THE HEART also shows at Images Cinema Saturday, July 22 at
