zither/tsimbl

I went to see the Jewish Peoples Philharmonic Chorus at Hebrew Union
College in NY (great show!) and caught an exhibit of Judaica which
included a painting, late 19th century Polish, of a klezmer band. The
painter was Kolodorfer. Among the musicians was a tsimbler, who was a
young barefoot boy. In the description of the painting it erroneously
called it a zither. -Itzik
PS - I am now writing for the Yiddish Foverts (Forward) and if you
would like to have a recording reviewed, please send it to me. I also
will have a regular "musical news" [muzikalishe nayes] spot on the
Forward hour on WEVD AM (1050) every Sunday. It's in Yiddish. I
highlighted the anski/beregovski CD - Treasure of Jewish Culture in
Ukraine- this morning, and will highlight the revival of the tsimbl
next week. The show is on-line as well. Please send recordings to
