It is time to leak this story out, and I couldn't think of a more appropriate
venue, I have received much inspiration from my connection to you all all over
the world.
Do you remember my talking about the documentary special for the last eight
months? It is now imminent, A Way Back is a one-hour special about Jewish teens
that are inspired by a cultural connection to the past through klezmer music.
My crew will travel to Warsaw and Krackow to find the last of the remaining
Holocaust survivors- to hear their stories and participate in a mentoring
process.
Here is the twist- this program will be seen through the eyes of teens-they
will be very musch part of the production. This program is very important to
document at this time because it keeps the stories of the musicians and the way
a music followed the Jews into the Holocaust alive. There will be contrasts,
and much more!
While there they will particpate in the week world famous Krackow music
festival. Some folks who appear on the list will be interviewed.
The Klezmaniacs are a group of well-trained and inspired teens under the
direction of Cantor Ken Richmond (Harvard graduate and visionary). Twelve teens
are going plus a grandparent that survived and will be coming along to
translate. His hope is to find hidden instruments and music that can be shared
with the group.
Do any of you have contact with musicians from Warsaw or Krackow that have
instruments that were made while in hiding, or perhaps after the war. We need
pictures, instruments from people in Krackow or Warsaw and we need them fast.
The teens want to create a living memorial with the music to honor those that
died. The teens are interested in spending one night at one of the camps and
wonder if anyone has information about who to contact.?
We will be working with a fantastic crew and will tell who this famous person
is in weeks to come.
Right now I am in an emergency funding mode- there is no money in the pot and I
am due to leave June 24th. Say a prayer, wish me luck and if you have any ideas
please share.
