Inquiry re "Rachel"

A Jewish music history text I have (I carelessly photocopied w/out 
source--can retrieve) avers:  "Early in the 17th century, the Jewess Rachel 
was frequently permitted to leave the confines of the Venetian ghetto in 
order to sing and play her music for the gentry of Venice and surrounding 
communities."

That's all he says.  Does anyone have any idea who *this* "Rachel" was and 
anything more about her?
