Re: flute in klezmer music



Perhaps Henry can vouch for the authenticity of this (I was there, but
having been seated, have no standing):

Question to Leon Schwartz from a Klez-kamper (at a discussion chaired by
Michael Alpert) concerning the presence of the flute in kapelyes in
Bukovina:

"Was it a wooden flute?"

Leon replied:  "It was a wooden flute, and sometimes it wooden work!"

That, ipso facto, may be the answer.
