Although I am not a musician I'll put in my 2 cents.What helped me 
understand the various klezmer genres was to go and buy a copy of Josh?s cd 
(Mother Tongue by his band Budowitz).   Reading the very detailed liner 
notes which explain and give the history of each track, and listening to the 
cd was both enjoyable and educational.  The cd also has some of the melodies 
  mentioned in Feldman?s article on the Bulgar.
