No, I know Gene Shalit's family and they are not from Austria, unless I
guess if this is one branch that moved there before the War. I used to
teach his aunt Yiddish. Now that I think of it, she was a member of the
Met chorus for 30+ years. Her musicality may suggest a special musical
gene that may or may not be related to his.
