Isle of Klezbos rides again! Thur 2/24 @NYC's Makor: female klezmer in every dimension

Following their 1998 debut and smash festival appearances featuring
continuous dancing in the aisles, the all-female klezmer powerhouse returns
refreshed from their sojourn at the hot springs of Klezbos to retake the New
York stage. The fun-loving, soulful sextet features a dedicated and diverse
line-up of musicians whose influences range from high opera to hard-core
punk. Show starts at 8pm Thur, Feb 24, a night of "Knitting Factory Uptown"
downstairs at swank Cafe Makor, 35 West 67th St, NYC. ISLE OF KLEZBOS plays
on an exuberant double bill with singer/writer/accordionist Rachelle
Garniez's Mondobiotic Quintet, which features her own sweet and sardonic mix
of all-original Roots-Latin-Cabaret-Jazz-Rock tunes. Two distinctive musical
experiences for the price of one ($12!)

Known for their energetic and engaging interpretations of an imaginative mix
of styles from all over the far-flung map of Yiddish culture, ISLE OF KLEZBOS
is led by ?drummer Eve Sicular (bandleader of Metropolitan Klezmer, archivist
of "The Celluloid Closet of Yiddish Film"), and includes ?trumpet/flugelhorn
artist Pam Fleming ("Fearless Dreamer" creator back from national Lilith Fair
stints with the Indigo Girls and Natalie Merchant); ?accordionist Rachelle
Garniez ("Diva with a difference," as mentioned by Billboard magazine for her
Serenade City CD); ?vocalist Deborah Karpel (Metropolitan Klezmer, "Hot
Keys," Shock of the Funny, Intercambio Musicale, Amato Opera, and so much
more); ?clarinet/saxophonist Debra Kreisberg (performer/composer with Latin
jazz group Los Mas Valientes and funk band D'Tripp); & ?bassist
extraordinaire Catherine Popper (rockabilly, free jazz, classical, you name
it).

More venue info at www.Makor.org or call 212/601-1000. Band previews? May
we suggest www.metropolitanklezmer.com (brand new 21st-century photos to be
posted on the Klezbos page any moment now) and www.cdbaby.com/garniez for the
full audio, visual, biographical & commercial works. Hope to see you soon!
