Re: Klezmer and sephardic music

I can't prove it, but I suspect that there have been connections for a long
time between the Balkans and Eastern Europe extending into Poland and
Russia. I visited Belgrade in '63, and for one day I travelled through the
countryside. I took photos of the small villages we passed through. When
we got back, I showed them to my mother-in-law who grew up and was married
in Poland before coming to the U.S. She thought they looked just like the
villages she knew.

There is also an ethnic connection between the Slavs in Yugoslavia and in
Eastern Europe. And the gypsies (who often played with klezmer bands)
travelled extensively.
