Re: klezmer and Sephardic

Perhaps the whole Sephardic - Ashkenazic Nexus in Rumaina-Bessarabia-Hungary
is one of those earlier "fusion" things. I've run into a fair number of
Yiddish-speaking Sephardim, who seem to have had plenty of contact with
klezmorim (my great-grandfather's obscure roots may explain the Turkish
records among his 78s). Is it really the case that Sephardim never hired
instrumentalists to entertain at parties?

As for Balkanizing ("Koutevizing"?) sephardic song, I did "Siete Ijos Tiene
Hana" that way on my "Taste of Chanukah" CD. It just seemed like a natural
alternative treatment, although I'd never pass it off as authentic anything.
