Thanks for all of that good information.

I should have looked more carefully at Irene Heskes's "Passport to
Jewish Music".  It does have several pages in the chapter "Jewish
Music in America", most of it under the section "Yiddish American
Minstrelsy" although the section on "Eili, Eili" is particularly
interesting to me.

As to Diane Cypkin's dissertation, I'm embarrassed to say that I was
unaware of it, even though I'm a colleague of hers at Pace University,
Westchester (Pleasantville) where she teaches in the Speech
department.  Diane performs in Yiddish theater and sings Yiddish songs
and lives in Brooklyn.  I've collaborated with her several times
providing recorded music for her projects.  I'm sure that she's read
her dissertation and I've just written to her asking for a peak.
