    **Well, I for one am not sure it's so unfortunate--I find it stimulating 
to engage the question, as long as it's clear from the outset that there 
isn't likely to be a definitive answer!  One writer--perhaps in the JEWISH 
MUSIC NOTES I refer to in another posting--called it the "seething 'What Is 
Jewish Music' cauldron." (!)
