RE: Yiddish and Spanish Civil War

There is a great deal of material in Yiddish about the Spanish Civil War. 
 Many leftists went to fight there and their common language was Yiddish. 
  A film was made about their role a few years ago by Judy Montell (sp.) 
but I don't remember the name at this moment.  Don't have to look in my 
files.  (I saw it in Madrid at a Jewish film festival the Jewish Film 
Festival of San Francisco arranged in 1993, but it did play in America.) 
  If you write to them, they will tell you the film (go to their web page). 
 Otherwise, YIVO could help finding related Yiddish songs.   I have heard a 
few in the past, but I don't remember where it was.  YIVO also certainly 
has much material related to this history.
