YIDDISH ULPAN IN LA

LET'S LEARN YIDDISH TOGETHER!

FIRST EVER! YIDDISHKAYT'S ONE-DAY INTENSIVE YIDDISH COURSE AT UJ ON
NOVEMBER 11!

Building on such well-known models for intensive language instruction as
the Workmen's Circle's Mameloshn and the intensive Yiddish summer courses
at YIVO/Columbia and Oxford, Yiddishkayt L.A., in conjunction with the
University of Judaism, offers Los Angeles' first-ever all-day intensive
workshop in Yiddish, YIDDISH FAR ALEMAN/YIDDISH FOR ALL, the YIDDISH ULPAN.
This exciting day of intensive instruction will be offered for the
first time on Sunday, November 7 at the University of Judaism. Experienced
and well-known language teachers, including Miriam Koral, Marion Herbst,
Kaye Goodman, Fima Chesney, and Sheindel Leiberman Reich, will offer
Yiddish language instruction in two 2-hour sessions at 4 different levels:
Absolute Beginner (onheyber/no knowledge of Yiddish letter), Advanced
Beginner ( a bisl/some ability to read Yiddish), Intermediate (a sakh), and
Advanced (maven). Participants will also have the opportunity to learn
and sing Yiddish songs at several times during the day. Following lunch,
Prof. Eli Katz, noted UC Berkeley professor, will provide an overview of
the history of Yiddish language and culture. The day will end with group
singing, dance instruction, and a live klezmer band. All this for only $75
including lunch, advance payment ($85 at the door), young people (ages
12-18) pay $50 ($60 at the door), seniors (+65) and students pay $70 ($80)
at the door. Don't delay. This program is sure to fill up quickly! You
can register by calling Yiddishkayt at 323/962-8151 or the University of
Judaism at 310/476-9777.
