The latest in klezmer manifestos . . .
EZRA POUND SAID
"Music rots when it gets too far from the dance."
(I.B. Singer wasn't available.)
YIDDISHE CUP SAID:
"Some groups are turning klezmer into art music, concert music -- a music
which was primarily dance music. You know, there's a parallel to jazz, in
which jazz was originally party music, dance music, but then became art
music. Now all the jazz musicians are lamenting that they lost the
party-dance thread. And I don't want to lose that thread."
--Yiddishe Cup director, Kalamazoo Gazette, Aug. 8, 1999

FRESH KLEZ, FRESH REVIEWS:
"Masterful musicianship . . . aural loop-de-loops. Humor played a big part
in Yiddishe Cup's performance, much of it classic Borscht Belt material."
-- Mark Wedel, Kalamazoo Gazette
"A world-class act, which happens to be based in Northeast Ohio."
-- Larry Bruner,Continuum, monthly newsletter of Folknet
"Combines a robust respect for tradition with a twinkling sense of
adventure. . . Yiddishe Cup is a fun, versatile band."
- Peggy J. Latkovich, Dirty Linen, the magazine of folk and world music.
