Re: Cultured Pearls

You would perhaps want to check out Klezkanada which seems to do a
particularly large amount of work in this area. It's run by Montreal's
Jewish Education Committee and provides 50 scholarships to talented jr. high
and high school level music students so that they can spend a week studying
klezmer and Yiddish music (This year's faculty is particularly
distinguished). A lot of the students have ongoing lives like what you
describe. Their website is www.klezkanada.com. Klezcamp, the inspiration
for all such programs has a similar network of young'ens associated with it.
As for ongoing work, Ken Richmond does wonders at Hillel Academy in
Swampscott, MA. ---Hankus Netsky
