(adv.) new Jewish Bund recording

a bisl yidishkayt is pleased to offer the new release entitled In Love and in Struggle: The Musical Legacy of the Jewish Labor Bund. It features arrangements and piano accompaniments by Zalmen Mlotek, and the singers Adrienne Cooper [also of Kapelye], Dan Rous, Abe Gershowitz, The New Yiddish Chorale, and the Workmen's Circle Chorus.

Did you know that S. Ansky ("The Dybbuk") wrote the words for the Bund's anthem? There are many other unfamiliar delights in this choral album - such as the spirited hey, hey, daloy politsey (down with the police and Russian ruling class!), and a medley of three songs about the Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 (including one by Ruth Rubin). The arrangements and selections are varied - solos by the adults and by Zalmen's young son Avram, English narrative interludes by Cooper, somber and yearning songs, joyous and rebellious ones. They give a good gifil for the struggles and context of the lives of many of our forebears - as Mlotek writes, "The spirit, the intensity, the passion of these lyrics and melodies inspired revolution and change in the times when they were written."

Includes a beautiful booklet with many archival photos, forwards by author Irena Klepfisz and Bundist Motl Zelmanowicz, and background information on each song. Words in Yiddish, transliteration, and English translation. (For song list, please see our web site, address below)

CD $18, cs. $12 (mailing costs $2 and $1.75 respectively).
