MetroKlezmer June (update)



Hi all,

Here's a spate of Metropolitan Klezmer (live, on air, and on disc), including 
our last NYC-area shows til this fall!!  A few repeats from last month's 
message include new updates...  

1)  European TV premiere:
ARD network is airing "Rhythms of New York," a music documentary featuring 
MetroKlezmer concert and (Jewish/Hindu) wedding footage plus interview clips 
with clarinetist Steve Elson.  The show debuts Sat, June 5 at 12:30pm, and is 
seen throughout Germany as well as in parts of neighboring countries 
(Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Holland, etc.)  Subsequent airings of the 
program are expected to cycle through the ARD German TV schedule every few 
months.

2)  PRI "Sound & Spirit" radio show across North America this week:
Public Radio International/WGBH's "Sound and Spirit" airing the week of May 
30 includes the MetroKlezmer track "Der Yidisher Soldat in di Trenches" 
["Jewish Soldier in the Trenches," after Naftule Brandwein] from Metropolitan 
Klezmer's YIDDISH FOR TRAVELERS. 

3)  Two FREE NYC-area shows (outdoors if weather permits, both rain-or-shine):
Tues, 6/8 at Museum Mile Festival for The Jewish Museum, Fifth Avenue at 92nd 
St, NYC, 6-9pm.  Fifth Avenue closed to vehicles, all museums free of charge!

Thur, 6/10 (mid-day) at Abe Lebewohl Park:  The *Isle of Klezbos*!  
All-female seven-piece powerhouse klezmer project returns after last year's 
formidable debut at Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, playing a set for the 
Third Street Music School Settlement Concert Series, East 10th St at Second 
Avenue, NYC, 12:30-1:30pm.  Refreshments after the show courtesy of the 2nd 
Ave Deli.  Info: 212.777.3240. 

4)  Our last NYC-area concert until this fall, playing *The Bottom Line* for 
the "Required Listening" Series (co-sponsored by WFUV-FM) on Fri, June 25.  
Four Required Listening acts featured in each of two sets; news of other 
artists to follow.  The Bottom Line Cabaret, 15 West 4th St, NYC.  Info:

5)  Performing live on WFMU's TransPacific Sound Paradise show hosted by the 
adventurous Rob Weisberg (WFMU, 91.1FM, New York City-New Jersey area signal, 
Fri 6/18, 3-6pm).

6)  MetroKlezmer track included on "Klezmer for Kosovo" compilation:
A new Swiss-produced cd raising funds for refugee relief features "C-Minor 
Bulgar" from Metropolitan Klezmer's YIDDISH FOR TRAVELERS.
