MetroKlezmer: new website+gigs/Ana &the Tevka's/Isle of Klezbos



hi everyone [self-promotion disclaimer here],

Metropolitan Klezmer is emerging from our hibernation soon for spring and end-
of--winter public performances.  We'd also like to announce our budding web-
site, as well as fun new spin-off projects from the Isle of Klezbos... such as
this week's debut of Ana & the Tevka's (think Tevye's Fiddler meets the
Amazons of Y2K).  Below is a list of various upcoming dates; for more details,

*METROPOLITAN KLEZMER SHOWS
=Sun, 3/21:  Workmen's Circle concert commemorating the Triangle Shirtwaist
factory fire, co-sponsored by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.  At the
Workmen's Circle building, 45 E 33rd St, NYC.  Full program info from Ori

=Sun, 4/11:  Reprise at Tonic's Klezmer Sundays series, curated by David
Krakauer.  Two sets, 1:30 & 3pm (one set $10; both sets $15).  Brunch & bar
available at the heymish downtown club housed in the former Kedem Kosher
Winery, 107 Norfolk St, NYC.  F-train to Delancey, around the corner from
Ratner's Restaurant.  212/358-7503

=Tues, 5/23:  Double bill at Fez Under Time Cafe, Great Jones St @ Lafayette
in NYC.  Metropolitan Klezmer (9pm) plus Rachelle Garniez & The Fortunate Few
(8pm).  Two fabulous bands, one low price... $12!  Great food and drink,

*ANNA & THE TEVKA's APPEARANCES
=Thur, 3/18:  Southern Connecticut College Women's Coffeehouse, New Haven CT.
7pm on.

=Sat, 3/20:  National Yiddish Book Center, as part of the weekend-long
conference "The New Jewish Woman in America: The Transformation of the Eastern
European Legacy".  Concert 7:45-9pm.  1021 West St, Amherst MA (campus of

... and watch for future info on the return of **Music from the ISLE OF
KLEZBOS**!  The full-scale powerhouse women's band is back after our smashing
success on the Saturday Night stage at Michigan Festival... in downtown NYC
