Thanks, Wolf, for your interesting lines about the riot in LA 1943. Never
heard of that, and neither have I ever come across "Zoot Suit". On the look
out frow now on.
Looking for confirmation about Leo Watson (speaking of Krupa, LW is the
vocalist of Krupa's Big Band's version of "Nagasaki" from 1938), I instead
found that Slim and Slam (Gaillard and bassist Slam Stewart) recorded "Bei
mir bist du schoen" in july 1938. Never heard this one, would be
interesting to know if this is the germanized version or if there is some
Yiddish in it.
Furthermore Gaillard recorded "Matzoh balls" at least twice (1939 and 1946)
and a tune called "Mishugana Mambo" once (1952), but if this last one has
any allusions to "meshuga" or "mishegoss" I can't say.
Voot Oureene,
Ingemar
