Re: default option on this list

Ari: For what it's worth, as an admittedly new member on this list (or
relatively so, I assume)--and one very grateful, I might add, for your
assistance, including in changing my e-mail address recently--I'd like
to very _strongly_ urge you to consider--or, if you must, submit to the
list, tho I wish you'd just do it--changing the default option to the
sender--ideally, w/ a click-on option below the message to send to the
list. Of the lists I'm on--as pleased as I am to be on it, as grateful
for your administration of it-- this is far and away the most cluttered
w/ time-wasting, annoying, meaningless back-and-forth banter--often only
one or two words! (literally, as you know)--that belong in private
messages--of the "Right on, Reyzl" variety. The time wasted in
retrieving these endless messages--most of which also do not have
accurate or updated subjects (witness the endless posts on the
non-subject "Correction")--is _not_ trivial!!--If the connections are
slow, retrieving and deleting each can easily take half a minute or a
minute or more. Twenty or thirty of those consumes a ludicrous amount
of the limited time I have to access e-mail (from other lists, not just
this one). And now we have the example(s) of message after message w/
an Oops--I meant that to be private. That's a reversible mistake if the
default is to the sender; an irreversible one as is. I meant to keep
track of the more absurd messages that _clearly_ shd have been sent--and
many intended--privately, but didn't; most or all messages that begin
"Dear Reyzl" (or whoever, don't mean to single her out!) should
obviously be sent to a person. Avi, please consider changing this or at
least bringing it up. Of course, it wd be nice if it sufficed to remind
people to think about whether their post is private or not, but people
_won't_ do it--won't take the time to type in somebody's personal e-mail
address-- anymore than they've been careful about changing the subject
since Reyzl brought that up (in fact, I think Reyzl hasn't been careful
about it herself). So please think about this!!--it's really making the
list as much of a bother as the pleasure and improvement it should be.
Many thanks again for reading this--and I _do_ appreciate, ss others do,
your management of this list and your attending to my needs in
particular. Oh, a P.S.: After you switched my e-mail, there was a post
(maybe from R Wiener, not sure) saying something like, you shouldn't
leave out these two books on Jewish music history--presumably, from a
list of Jewish Music bookshelf essentials that someone had posted. But
I never received an original post of that kind--Can you check when it
was sent? Can you forward it? Many thanks for all.
