If you look at the progression of music for most ethnic minorities, you see
over time, a mixing of music types. For example, although I am Jewish... Cape
Veredian music combines Portuguese and African dialect. Cuban music from its
early roots with such artists as Ruben Gonzalez, etc. has over time become a
progression of different sounds. I think it is the same with African/Jewish
music. Incorporating other cultures, instruments, etc. should not result in
questioning musical or cultural validity. Even Ladino music is a combination
of Spanisih and Yiddish. Does that make it any less Jewish? No. All for now.
