There is another Martha Schlamme CD "Raisins & Almonds" available. It was
released on CD in 1995. I hounded the label for over three years to release
it.
Naturally, these Cds are not new material, but things that were available on
lp.

The arrangements are by Robert DeCormier and beautiful though some people
might consider them over orchestrated.

Another artist that I can recommend, and my favorite Yiddish recording is by
Netania Davrath.

Netania Davrath was a Russian classical singer, but could she ever sing folk
songs. She came to the US around 1959 (?) and recorded and Lps in Yiddish, one
in Russian, and one in Hebrew. The entire album is fantastic, but her version
of "Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen" in my opinion is by far the best I have ever heard.
If it doesn't rip out your kishkes, nothing will.

Her recordings were unavailable for about 20 years. I called the label at
least once a week for over 3 years literally yelling at them to at least
release her Yiddish recordings.

One day , after my harassing them for 3 years,I received a call from the Label
and was told" Simon, we're going to release the Netania Davrath records-leave
us alone". They released all three recordings on a 2 CD set. I then started
hounding them for the Martha Schlamme recordings.

Netania Davrath also has a 2CD set of "The Songs Of The Auvern (Spelling?)"
She died in Israel in 1987 at the age of 56
