Celebrate "Israel at 50" on Staten Island

Dear Friends:
I send you greetings from my favorite Cantor. This event is free
with ample parking. CSI is located at 2800 Victory BLVD, Staten
Island NY. Attendance at this event will strengthen the forces of
inclusion and diversity and oppose exclusion of Liberal, Reform and
secular Jews from participating is the Jubilee Celebration.
    Best wishes to all,
    Abraham Malz

              Celebrate Israel at 50

                Sunday, May 17
College of Staten Island Performing Arts Center

Temple Israel Choirs will sing in the Recital Hall
6:45 - 7:15 p.m

Every year the Jewish Community Center has presented a celebratory
event related to Israel and out choirs have participated. This year
on this coming Sunday, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the State
of Israel, there will be an island-wide celebration at CSI with the
main evening event to be held in the Concert Hall from 7:30 to 9m
p.m. Due to the halachic restrictions of the Orthodox community, the
committee arranging that event has informed me that only children
could sing (girls under 12, boys under 13) and that I could not. As
the cantor of the most important force for liberal Judaism on Staten
Island, I feel that it is vital for me to participate, to sing in
support of my ideals, on behalf of all the girls and women in our
choir and in solidarity with progressive and secular Jews in the land
of Israel. Arrangements have been made for our choirs to sing in the
Recital Hall for those of the community who wish to hear us with time
for everyone to move to the Concert Hall for the main program.
Through this less than ideal compromise, the full forces of the
Temple Israel Choirs will be able to participate.

WE INVITE THE GREATER JEWISH COMMUNITY OF STATEN ISLAND AND
SURROUNDING AREAS TO JOIN US IN THE RECITAL HALL TO CELEBRATE WITH US!
