Leeds Klezmer Festival

This event will take place on Sunday and Monday August 30/31 1998 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.

The event will build on previous successful one day events held in Sheffield and Leeds.  The event is organized in association with the Jewish Music Heritage Trust

Although the event is klezmer focused, resources permitting,it is intended to include Yiddish and Sephardic music and dance.

The venue will be at a residential university campus which will provide low cost accommodation.

There will also be a Sunday evening public concert with a top  UK klezmer band participating.

Artists/Musicians from outside the UK will be most welcome to participate in workshops and tuition fees are payable but travel bursaries will be very limited. 

Resources: enquiries are welcome from suppliers of Jewish music and books who may wish to participate in the event. (It is uncertain whether or not there will be any UK Jewish music supplier operating by August as the existing distributor's business is up fop sale.)

Participation in the klezmer music tuition workshops may be restricted to a maximum of 80 or 90 people.
