FIVE EVENTS WITH THE
WHOLESALE KLEZMER BAND
**************************************************************
Congregation Etz Chaim Gala and 16th Annual Raffle
Saturday December 20 at 8 pm
Jewish Community Alliance
Jacksonville, Florida
What's the connection between "Fiddler on the Roof" and the klezmer music
revival that's become so popular in the last few years?
The Wholesale Klezmer Band, which performed last winter in Jacksonville,
will return to the JCA on San Jose Blvd on Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. for a gala
event sponsored by Etz Chaim Synagogue.
For Jewish and non-Jewish audiences alike, Wholesale will add to its unique
blend of traditional Yiddish dance music, original tunes and political
songs a selection of "Fiddler on the Roof" themes that connect the musical
with the world of Sholem Aleichem, on which it was based.
The band's last Jacksonville appearance, which included plenty of music for
dancing, was sold out, so you'll want to get your tickets early.
Tickets for the evening will be on sale in advance at Etz Chaim Synogogue,
10165 San Jose Blvd. and at the JCA. For more information, phone Etz Chaim
at 262-3665 , or the JCA at 730-2100.

Wholesale is a spiritually rooted, heymishe (down-home) klezmer band that
bridges the gap between tradition and innovation and between rousing dance
music and songs that deliberately focus on important aspects of Yiddish
culture, especially humor, social justice and tikun olam (repair of the
world.) The Wholesale Klezmer Band has recently released its third album,
"Yidn fun Amol" (Jews of Long Ago), on CD and cassette.
The folk magazine Dirty Linen said, ''It is the balance they achieve
between social understanding and social satire that marks The Wholesale
Klezmer Band as a truly great klezmer band."
