Fine Definition of Klezmer

In their two recent postings I believe Jeffrey Wollock and Cantor Schwartz
achieved together the best musical description we've yet seen of the klezmer
idiom.
Jeffrey's summary of "Klezmer's nearest musical relatives" corrected
mistaken notions in my mind. The East Romanian/Carpathian/Ukrainian origin
is clear when it's pointed out in this way. This is the old
"Austro-Hungarian" region where great centres of Yiddish flourished.
Can we call this the real origin of klezmer and say that other sub-idioms
are variants?
