B"H Luzern, Switzerland,
To my fellow Jewish musicians :
Thanks, Ari, for your moderation in this discussion. However, there is an
important point I wanted to
raise, and that is:
My questions to the list, as can be found in my original post "Attention:
the German thing"
were NOT meant to be used/abused by the general membership in any way they
saw fit.
Of course, world peace, and Hutu vengeance, and all the rest of people's
agendas have their
place -- but not unreservedly in this space.
I asked SPECIFIC questions -- twice -- and NOBODY seems able to address the
questions I posted
without wandering into Yiddish, Native Americans, et cetera. I AM pleased
that two or three of the
responses have come from (Jewish?) musicians who have played in Germany,
but am somewhat
aggrieved at the lack of SERIOUS (Ernsthaft) content in their responses.
Ultimately, it seems the
majority of responses have been the "I don't know why I shouldn't play in
Germany" variety.
Perhaps this is the answer I'm looking for from my fellow musicians,
perhaps not -- however,
I find the lack of concentrated response (on the part of so many ) the
biggest surprise of all. And Ari, my
friend, if someone asks you to moderate this salvo, please be slightly more
deferential. I initiated
this discussion, and am the reader PRIMARILY interested in the responses
received; and while
I would reject or ignore some of the responses received as being off-topic,
I don't believe I would belittle anyone who sought to play by the rules in
calling in the moderator. Generally I agree with your application
of the rules thus far -- I'm just surprised you didn't have more of an
active role in structuring the
discussion in the first place, and look forward to ALL the readers taking
part in these responses, while
at the same time requesting those who DO respond to READ THE QUESTIONS
before responding.
B'ahava,
Alex Jacobowitz
