For the information of the newsgroup:
I have been trying to find a sponsor for such a community choir-style amateur
orchestra in Chicago, so if anyone knows of an organization that would like
to adopt such a project, send them to me! I have set up two amateur
orchestras here: The JRC Klezmer Band "Heavy Shtetl," begun in 1989 by the
congregation at which I serve as Cantor, and the Jr. Klezmer Orchestra (ages
11-17), generously sponsored by the Community Foundation for Jewish Education
since 1992. I love to work with these groups, because of the pleasure of
playing with musicians who do it for fun instead of for a living! (These
sometimes become mutually exclusive.) All ideas are welcome for starting up
an amateur adult ensemble.
