Dan,
" YIGDAL is the opening word of a Hebrew hymn dealing with the
thirteen
articles of faith, recited or chanted at the beginning of the daily
morning prayer by the Ashkenazim, and at the conclusion of services on
Sabbaths and festivals, particularly by Sephardim. It is a l5th century
composition, probably by Daniel ben Judah Dayan."
I located the above quote in The New Jewish Encyclopedia ed David
Bridger, Behrman House 1976. I hope it helps you.
