Jennifer,
In the repertoire of klezmer musicians I have interviewed and from the
recorded evidence, hora refers to a Rumanain style hora in 3/8 and NOT to
freylekhs, bulgars or khusidls. Older Jewish musicians have interchangable
used the names "freylekh" and "bulgar" but I've never heard of anyone using
"hora" to describe anything in duple meter unless they were refering to the
Israeli "hora".
The Yiddish style hora also goes by the names "zhok" and "krimer tants"
("limping dance".)
